BESS Battery Park Coo
ENGIE is continuing the rollout of its large-scale BESS projects in Belgium. The future battery park at Coo will have an output of 74 MW and a storage capacity of 296 MWh, to store electricity when renewable generation is abundant and feed it back into the grid when demand is higher, delivering power at full capacity for up to four hours.

BESS Battery Park Vilvoorde
With a total capacity of 200 MW / 800 MWh, ENGIE’s battery park in Vilvoorde is the largest in Belgium and ranks among the biggest in Europe. It consists of 320 lithium-ion containers that can store 200 megawatts of electricity for 4 hours at full power and release it back to the grid for another 4 hours later in the day. This is equivalent to the average daily electricity consumption of 96,000 Belgian households.
The battery park in Drogenbos
After obtaining the building permit in 2023, ENGIE started the construction of an 80 MW battery park at its Drogenbos site. The batteries will be able to supply energy for four hours, representing 320 MWh of storage capacity, equivalent to 64,000 home batteries of 5 kWh. Once fully charged, they could cover the electricity consumption of 38,400 households.
The Kallo Battery Park
ENGIE is currently building a new 100 MW battery park (Li-ion batteries) at its Kallo site. The batteries will be able to supply energy for four hours, representing 400 MWh of storage capacity, equivalent to 80,000 home batteries of 5 kWh. Once fully charged, they could cover the electricity consumption of more than 48,000 households.

First spade in the ground marks start of construction for ENGIE’s new battery park in Vilvoorde
ENGIE received the permit for the construction of a new battery park in Vilvoorde in July 2023, and after the project was selected for capacity remuneration in October 2023, work on the site quickly started. A 3.5-hectare site was prepared and will soon accommodate 320 battery modules measuring 25 m x 4m x 3m. Each of these will be combined with an inverter, a transformer and the required electrical installations to connect them to the high-voltage grid.
