Board of directors
The Board of Directors is the highest decision-making body in the company except when it comes to issues which, according to law or the Articles of Association, must be reserved for shareholders.
With a capacity of 99.5 MW, Kristal Solar park is the largest solar park in the Benelux. 303,000 solar panels and 2,200 kilometers of cables are installed on a 93-hectare site, which corresponds to 200 football fields. The new installation produces 85,000 MWh per year, the equivalent of an annual consumption of nearly 25,000 families, and avoids annual CO₂ emissions of more than 30.000 tons,
“The conversion of green energy is done by Nyrstar,” explains Guido Janssen, Vice President of European Operations at Nyrstar. “Through a direct line between the solar park and our technical installations, our zinc smelter will take all the power from the solar panels. We make our production process greener by using renewable energy.”
Companies that later settle on the Kristalpark III business park can also request a connection to the solar park. In this way, less electricity will gradually go to Nyrstar and more electricity to new companies on the site. This approach is unique.
Mayor Bob Nijs, mayor of the city of Lommel: “From this year on, we will let citizens participate in the project. After all, not everyone has the opportunity to install solar panels, just think of residents of apartments or houses whose roof does not have the correct orientation. By opening up the solar park in Lommel to the citizens of Lommel, everyone can invest in solar energy. Moreover, the solar park also increases the attractiveness of the business park.”
“LRM is investing more and more in impactful climate projects,” says Tom Vanham, CEO of LRM. “Kristal Solar Park fits in perfectly with our own climate objectives and achieves 25 percent of the Flemish ambition for solar panels for 2019. Flanders is aiming for one solar panel per Fleming by 2020. Moreover, we are proud that this project is a cross between economy and ecology. In all phases of the project, the natural environment of the industrial site was taken into account.”
Philippe Van Troeye, CEO of ENGIE Benelux: “ENGIE has the ambition to be the leader of the “zero carbon” transition. With the impressive solar panel installation here in Lommel, the largest solar park in the Benelux, this ambition is increasingly becoming reality. The project shows our deep-rooted expertise in solar energy, one of the cornerstones of the energy transition, and is a good example of the wide range of energy-efficient solutions that we offer our customers. We are proud that with the construction of Kristal Solar Park, which accounts for 99.5 MW of green, local energy, ENGIE is making Belgium a role model in energy efficiency. ”
Kristal Solar Park NV was founded in 2018 and is a collaboration between LRM NV, the city of Lommel and Nyrstar Belgium. The partnership is the client for the construction and operation of the solar park and has the objective of producing renewable energy. Kristal Solar Park is being realized on and next to the grounds of the Kristalpark III business park in Lommel.
