ENGIE is part of a strategic consortium to pursue the offshore wind Princess Elisabeth concessions in Belgium

Offshore wind energy is a cornerstone of the Belgian Energy transition. Already partners in the country with the SeaMade offshore wind farm, successfully operating since end of 2020, the consortium brings together unparalleled expertise and experience in generating clean energy from offshore wind.

As announced in its #ENERGIZE2030 strategy in Belgium, the ambition of ENGIE in the country is to lead the energy transition by building with its customers and partners the carbon-free, reliable and affordable energy system of tomorrow. To achieve this, ENGIE will, among other things, accelerate the development of renewables up to 2.5GW by 2030, but also draw on its unmatched capabilities as a global midstreamer to deliver low carbon energy to its clients. 

ENGIE has high ambitions in expanding its offshore wind capacity. Competing in the tender for the Princess Elisabeth concessions, with Ocean Winds and the other partners, is therefore an important step to achieve them. 

ENGIE will make an important contribution to the consortium, bringing its commercial and marketing expertise in order to deliver customers in Belgium with sustainable, reliable and affordable energy. Being the largest developer of renewable projects to the attention of corporates worldwide, ENGIE sold 2.4 GW of green electricity  through Power Purchase Agreements to industry and large energy consumers in 2023. Last year, ENGIE announced 34 deals across six markets and was the only developer to announce PPAs for these three technologies: solar, onshore wind and offshore wind. 

Next to accelerating the development of renewables, developing flexibility is a priority of ENGIE in Belgium. In order to make sure the produced electricity is delivered at the right time and at the right place for its customers, ENGIE will rely on its flexible portfolio to manage mismatches between the intermittent production and the consumption of its customers.
